BBL

BroadBand Light Therapy

BBL is a versatile treatment that can be tailored to a range of skin concerns by selecting specific filters and wavelengths, each targeting a different component of the skin. For acne-prone skin, blue range light targets the bacteria associated with breakouts, while a gentle yellow-range wavelength helps calm associated redness and supports clearer, healthier-looking skin. For vascular concerns such as facial redness, thread veins and diffuse flushing, the light is absorbed by haemoglobin in the blood vessels, which helps reduce the appearance of redness and leaves the complexion looking calmer and more even. For pigmentation, including sun spots, freckling and uneven tone, the light is absorbed by melanin in the skin, bringing pigmented areas to the surface so they fade and lift away, revealing a brighter, more uniform tone. During your consultation, your clinician will assess your skin and select the wavelength and settings best suited to your concerns, so your treatment is tailored specifically to you.

The BBL Forever Young protocol is a skin rejuvenation treatment designed for anyone who wants to slow the visible signs of ageing and keep their skin looking clearer, brighter and more even over the long term. It suits those concerned about sun damage, pigmentation, redness, fine lines and loss of radiance, and it works best as a proactive approach started before skin changes become advanced. Using the Sciton BBL (BroadBand Light) platform, the protocol delivers gentle, targeted pulses of light energy to the skin. The light is absorbed by pigment and blood vessels, which helps break down sun spots and diffuse redness, while also stimulating the skin's natural renewal processes. A series of treatments over time is the key, as BBL Forever Young works at a cellular level to support healthier, more youthful-functioning skin rather than simply treating what is visible today. Most clients enjoy a more even skin tone, improved clarity and texture, reduced redness and a fresh, healthy glow, with minimal downtime. Your treatment is tailored to your skin type and goals by our experienced clinicians at Erin Aesthetics, and a consultation will determine whether this is the right option for you.

Please Note: A pre-treatment assessment is necessary for clients interested in BBL. We will review your medical history, medications, and skin type, confirm suitability, discuss what to expect, and perform a patch test where appropriate. Please avoid tanning before your visit.

+ Who is it suitable for?

BBL is suitable for most patients wanting to support their skin's tone, clarity and overall health, particularly those concerned with pigmentation, redness or the visible effects of sun exposure. A consultation with our nurse-led team will confirm whether BBL is right for you.

+ Who cannot have BBL?

  • Active infection such as herpes simplex virus (HSV)
  • Active severe acne
  • Current skin cancer in the treatment area
  • Recent or active tan, including fake tan
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Any patient who has used oral isotretinon (Roaccutane) within 3-6 months prior to treatment
  • Any patient with burned, blistered, irritated or sensitive skin in the treatment area
  • Any allergies or photosensitivities should be discussed to ensure a safe treatment is recommended

+ What does it feel like?

Most clients describe a warm sensation with a light stinging or rubber band snap feeling as the light is delivered. Your eyes will be protected throughout, and cooling can be used to keep you comfortable during treatment.

+ How many treatments are required?

Results tend to build gradually, so we typically recommend a course of treatments, spaced several weeks apart, depending on your skin concerns. Your practitioner will confirm the right protocol for you during consultation.

+ How long do results last for?

Results continue to develop over the weeks following treatment as your skin renews. Ongoing sessions can help maintain results and support skin health over the long term.

+ Is there any downtime?

Downtime is minimal. Some short-term redness, warmth or mild swelling is common and generally settles within a few hours to a day. In some cases, treated pigmentation may darken briefly before flaking away as part of the normal healing process.

+ What should I do before my appointment?

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning (including fake tan) for at least 2 weeks prior
  • Avoid retinoids and exfoliating actives for several days prior
  • Avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements where possible, unless prescribed by your doctor
  • Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup where possible

+ What is my post treatment care?

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and wear SPF daily
  • Avoid makeup until the following day
  • Keep the skin hydrated with a gentle moisturiser
  • Avoid active skincare and exfoliation for several days
  • Avoid saunas, hot showers and strenuous exercise for 24 hours
