The Importance of Skin Tightening

The aging process occurs through a 3-dimensional process involving bone, muscle, fat pads, and skin.

From a non-surgical point of view, the loss of volume in the bony structure and soft tissue can be replaced to a certain extent using dermal fillers.

The loss of elasticity in the skin is due to collagen and elastin breakdown, which starts at the age of 20 and is accelerated through environmental factors such as UV exposure and smoking. The skin undergoes both intrinsic and extrinsic ageing. Intrinsic ageing is a continuous process that usually begins in the early 20s but may not be evident for many years after, eventually leading to the appearance of sagging, wrinkled skin. It affects everyone, progresses at different rates for each individual, and is largely genetically determined.

Extrinsic ageing, on the other hand, is caused by environmental factors such as UV exposure and smoking.

Skin tightening treatments strengthen and tighten the skin, improving elasticity and lift. This enables the skin to become thicker and stronger and, in some cases, will reduce the necessity for dermal fillers and wrinkle relaxers and/or cause a better effect from dermal fillers or wrinkle relaxers.
